Year 6 to Year 7
At Featherstone High School we have a well established programme which makes the transition from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible. During the Autumn Term, we visit our new pupils in their primary school, spend time with them, and answer as many questions about moving to Featherstone High School.
During the summer term, usually in June or July, parent/carers are invited into Featherstone High School for a presentation. Parent/carers have the opportunity to purchase school uniform and complete necessary documents. Shortly after, primary school pupils are then invited for the Pupil Induction day where they will have the opportunity to meet their tutor, fellow classmates and have the opportunity to take part in lessons.
Year 8 to Year 9
The Key Stage 4 curriculum starts in Year 9 which allows pupils an extra year to focus on those very important GCSE Examinations. At Featherstone High School it is our aim to keep our Key Stage 4 curriculum broad and balanced in order to keep as many subject choices as possible open for student when they enter our sixth form.
We operate a system of “guided pathways” at Key Stage 4 which means staff look carefully at each individual student’s data and guide them onto appropriate suite of GCSE subjects.
