Featherstone Sixth Form are once again celebrating fantastic A Level and BTEC Level 3 results with many students achieving top grades.
Gerry Wadwa, Headteacher, commented: “We were all delighted that the exceptional hard work of students and staff was reflected in a very pleasing set of A Level results this year. Our Year 13 students have shown tremendous commitment throughout the year to achieve this notable academic success and are also to be congratulated for their very important contribution to wider school life.”
In England, A Levels have been moving away from coursework and modules, returning to students being graded on final exams at the end of two years. The new reformed A Levels have been more rigorous and challenging this year. Despite this we are thrilled with an excellent set of results today with 51% of students achieving A* – B and a 100% pass rate for A Levels.
Our top achiever at A Level this year, Chittesh Patel (3A*s) is looking forward to studying Maths with Economics at the London School of Economics. He said “I want to thank all of my teachers for their incredible support throughout the two years and consistently giving up their time to help me.”
Avinash Bhatti (2A*, 1A) is off to Imperial University to study Physics and attributed his excellent grades to “hard work, perseverance and the amazing help from his teachers”.
Ambali Gupta (A*, A, B) was thrilled when she opened her results this morning. “It’s such a good feeling! I had my hopes set on studying English Literature at Birmingham University and now it’s all happening!”
BTEC students are also celebrating after completing more demanding courses with new exam components than in previous years. We are thrilled that 95% of students achieved Distinction* – Merit this year. Penifa Monteiro (D*D, M) is starting an apprenticeship in Pharmacy this September. She said “I had a lot of support from the school and the teachers were fantastic, giving up their time and really helping us prepare for the exams”.
Mark Thorley, Head of Sixth Form, said, “I just want to congratulate everyone today for their hard work and dedication. Students and staff should be very pleased with the 100% pass rate for A Level and BTEC courses”.
Zac Rawlinson, Head of Year 13, added, “There are so many happy faces today and I really want to wish them well for the future.”
